Guitar Lessons Online

You may have seen the ads out there to learn to play guitar online.   You may even be considering paying to get some lessons from your local guitar teacher.  The truth is whether you want to learn online or whether you would like face to face lessons with an actual instructor both can be done quite easily.  It used to be that if you wanted to learn guitar you had to take some lessons from your local guitar teacher.  You can still do that today and then once you have the basics you can expand on your guitar skills through online lessons.  With some of the great online lessons and instructors that are out there now it is reasonable to think that you could learn guitar entirely from online lessons.  Are there benefits to one over the other is the question.

Taking lessons with a guitar teacher that you meet face to face with has some advantages.  For one you get the structure of having a lesson every week or twice a week at a certain time.  This forces you to spend some time each week learning the guitar.  There is also the advantage of being accountable to a teacher.  You will be more motivated to practice and put some time into practicing if you know that you will have to show your teacher your progress or lack of.  There is also the advantage of getting immediate feedback from a teacher that a video won't give you.

The advantage of online lessons is that you can take a lesson any time.  You won't be held up by having to wait a week to move on to the next lesson.  Instead you can go through the material at your own pace and you also always have the ability review a lesson or part of a lesson at any time.  This can be extremely helpful when learning a song or a lick.

The other advantage of online lessons is that even though there are lots of online lessons you can pay for, we recommend Jamorama, there are also literally millions of free videos on youtube that are available.  This may take you more time in sifting through videos and finding lessons that build upon another but if you have some time you can do this.

No matter what method you choose, just think, all the great guitar players started somewhere.  There is no right way so figure out a way that is good for you and enjoy the journey!
